NOT GUILTY OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER

R. v. Thompson 2022 SCJ

Ms. Page’s client was charged with first-degree murder. At the end of the preliminary hearing, Ms. Page successfully argued that the client should be committed to trial only on a charge of manslaughter, thereby eliminating the risk of a life sentence.

After numerous pre-trial motions at the Superior Court of Justice, the Crown agreed to accept a guilty plea to robbery, based on the client’s admission that, at the time he helped his co-accused gain entry to the deceased’s apartment, he suspected a robbery would occur. Ms. Page negotiated a joint submission for a sentence of 2.7 years in custody.
